Our Stay at the Bahia Resort San Diego

Our Stay at the Bahia Resort San Diego

We recently had the pleasure of staying at the Bahia Resort Hotel in Mission Bay while visiting San Diego. If you are heading the area, and looking for a family-friendly resort close to downtown (and many of the areas attractions), then the Bahia Resort is a great choice! There’s so many things we enjoyed and I can’t wait to share! Here’s my review from our recent stay.

9 Reasons to Stay at The Bahia Resort Hotel in San Diego

1. Their Private Beach

The Bahia Resort is tucked away on the beautiful peninsula of Mission Bay. The calm waters and sandy beach was perfect for our kiddos and only steps from our room! We loved gazing at our Bay-front view every morning from the patio and enjoyed lounging on the oversized day beds dotted along the beach.

Mark went for a dip in the sea each morning and said it was very refreshing. I enjoyed playing with Hudson in the sand, and we were even able to pick him up a bucket and spade at the hotel’s gift shop! There were times we had the entire beach to ourselves, and the sunsets weren’t so bad either! 😉

2.The Resident Rescue Seals

We loved watching Billy and Gracie – the resort’s rescue seals being fed each morning in their spacious sanctuary! Hudson loves wild life and we would visit the seals each morning after breakfast.

3. The Bay Front Suites

Considered a landmark and the first hotel built on Mission Bay, the Bahia Resort consists of beachfront cottages, studios and spacious bayside suites. Having a suite equipped with a small kitchen and a separate bedroom was great. Having young kids, we loved the extra room for nap time and the ability to use the kitchen facilities when needed. The panoramic views of the bay were spectacular!

4. The Cafe Bahia Restaurant

We really enjoyed the food at the Bahia Resort! They had a great breakfast buffet that Hudson and I always took advantage of. Loads of fresh fruit including pineapple, watermelon, and strawberries! Mark ordered his favorite each morning – smoked salmon and cream cheese with a bagel! He commented how generous the portion was. I also tried the Eggs Florentine and it was yummy! During the month of October they had a “kids eat free” promotion, and their kids menu had a lot of great options! We dined at the restaurant on two other occasions for lunch and dinner. At dinner time the vibe was completely different and we loved the candlelit atmosphere. Everything was delicious and I remember wishing we had another night to try more of their dishes!

5. The Pool

Nestled in a palm lined courtyard, the Olympic sized pool at the Bahia Resort Hotel did not disappoint! Having a good pool is a must for us, and theirs was beautiful. We used it everyday and also enjoyed relaxing in the large jacuzzi. There’s even a poolside bar! Although we didn’t use the gym, it looked pretty good as well.

6. The Airstream turned Coffee Shop

Talk about Instagram-worthy, I couldn’t get enough of the on site Airstream bus that served up coffee, quick breakfast items and snacks all day long. Nearby you’ll find a cute little seating area under the palm trees! The grilled cheese sandwich came highly recommended and their coffee was on point each morning!

7. Water Sport Rentals On Site

Just a short stroll down the dock at the Bahia Resort and there’s an array of options waiting to explore Mission Bay! They have kayaks, paddle boards, and even sailboats. The perfect choice for us was a pontoon boat, and we loved every minute out on the water. They even had life jackets for the kids!

8. The Hospitality

Since the minute we checked in we felt welcomed, and everyone we came into contact with was friendly and attentive! At breakfast the chef even came to say hello and offered to take a family photo. We were always greeted with a friendly “hello”, and contributed to a lovely stay. They also had a playground and a duck pond that Hudson really enjoyed! The Bahia Resort Hotel is really great for families 🙂

9. The Surrounding Area

I had no idea how close we were to Mission Beach and the famed boardwalk. We loved strolling the promenade and taking in the local atmosphere. We grabbed delicious burritos from a local Mexican hotspot on two occasions. We also loved the beachside vibe in the early evenings! Belmont Park is only a couple blocks away and features one of the oldest wooden roller coasters on the west coast! Sea World is a few minutes by car and we even passed it while out on the water in our pontoon boat!

We had an excellent stay at The Bahia Resort San Diego and next time we’re in the area we would stay there again in a heartbeat. It’s perfect for relaxing after a day at the theme park, exploring downtown, or for just taking in all the fresh ocean air. We loved the family friendly atmosphere and the southern California charm!
