Why Fresh Air is Good for Babies and Hudson’s First Time on the Swing!
I’ve always believed that a good dose of Fresh Air is good for the body and the soul! Well this is also true for babies! We took the opportunity to get outside and go to the park today with my friend Kim and her little Kayden! She lives in a gorgeous neighborhood (not far from ours) with brand new parks – that never seem busy!
This particular playground is called the “TOT LOT” and is “exclusively” for babies and toddlers, just up the street is a park for older children with a trampoline built into the ground! Next time we will explore a playground nicknamed “The Million Dollar Park” as it literally cost over 1 million dollars to build! Playgrounds these days are awesome!
I can’t believe I hadn’t tried Hudson in the swing until now. I think we were waiting until he could properly sit up by himself…but I also just kind of forgot. I don’t know how many times we have walked TO the park, but never done anything AT the park! Anyways today was the day – and he LOVED it!
Hudson is a very happy baby, but he is not happy to stay inside all day long! Each day I try to get out of the house and take him outside for some fresh air! If we are inside for too long, he starts to fuss and I have to admit I get the same way! A short walk in the fresh air is sometimes all we need!
Ideally, a couple hours of fresh air each day (in all seasons) is an absolute necessity. Breathing in fresh air clears the mind and promotes good health! There are studies that have found babies sleep longer when exposed to plenty of light in the afternoon, a time when many mamas used to put babies in their prams or take them to a park.
While outside I try to make a point of showing Hudson the trees, birds, falling leaves, dogs running in the park and anything else “outdoorsy” that I notice. He is in absolute AWE as he looks to the sky and notices so many new sights and sounds.
We’ve just returned home and Hudson went straight down for his afternoon nap. He has been sleeping soundly for over an hour (More on sleep-training and our experience coming soon!) I think, in fact I KNOW that this is partly due to the fact that he was outside and had some fresh air today. He was stimulated as we played on the swings and walked around the neighborhood, but the light exposure is also crucial to his biological clock!
