Summer family getaway in Osoyoos, B.C.
For the second year in a row, we traveled to Osoyoos in the Okanagan over the July long weekend! It’s only a four hour drive from Vancouver, which makes for the perfect family getaway.
We stayed at Spirit Ridge Resort nestled on the hill overlooking the lake below. It’s also home to Nk’Mip Winery and the Nk’mip Desert Cultural Centre. We had a great time exploring the area, and one day we hiked along the trails looking for rattlesnakes. Just kidding – luckily we didn’t see any rattlesnakes, and the weather was cool enough to enjoy the hike!
Normally Osoyoos is very hot. It’s the only desert in Canada and Daytime temperatures are the hottest in the country! The 5 days we were there we experienced a cool breeze and quite a bit of cloud cover each day! It was still lovely weather, just not sweltering hot!
Osoyoos lake is known for its warm weather, beaches, and watersports. Because our resort had two beautiful pools, a winery, restaurants, and the cultural center, we didn’t spend a lot of time down at the actual lake. Next time we go we will probably try out a lakeside resort for something different!
On Canada Day we took the whole family downtown for the annual cherry-themed Canada Day Parade! It was great fun! It was the first time Mark’s sister and brother in-law had experienced Canada Day celebrations!
We had prime seating for the parade and Hudson loved it! It was so much fun to watch the floats, the dancing, and see his face excited throughout the entire thing!
Many hours were spent poolside. We even rented a cabana at the family pool on two of the days. Hudson had a great time swimming and even went down the water slide for the first time! I went with him, although I was told off by the pool attendant that no one over 16 years was actually allowed. Oops!
My friend Carrie (who is like part of the family) organized a limo to take us on a tour of the wineries of Oliver. Oliver is the wine capital of Canada and only 15 minutes from Osoyoos. We visited quite a few and made an entire day of it!
Rust Winery had this big old tractor that Hudson had a fun time playing on! He was such a trooper! We took him to all the wineries and he loved enjoying the scenery and wobbling around the grounds!
Hudson loves spending time with his grandma. They have a very special bond. It was so nice to spend time with them on this holiday. We had a 3 bedroom condo with a balcony and lots to see and do in the area!
On the last day we drove up to the viewpoint overlooking the lake and did one last wine tasting at our resort! We had such a fun holiday and can’t wait to return!

What a beautiful location. My husband and I are about to go on an 8 day cruise from NY to Quebec City with stops along the way. I’m very excited.
You will love Quebec City! It’s super charming! Safe sailing!
Very pretty there! So jealous of your trip. So neat that there is a beautiful lake (it is a lake, right?), desert, winery and more green space all right there.
Yes a lake! It is pretty neat, a very nice place to visit for sure!
We love Osoyoos! We live in Kelowna, and we are usually heading your way for our mini getaways to the city! I have to tell you- I saw your insta post about the waterslide and we were there with friends and I said “no no, I’ve seen moms go down this with kids before, you totally can!” And now I read that you got told off… SO funny!
That is so funny! Yep I wasn’t about to send him down that slide alone! Lol
