A romantic getaway “just up the road” The Lodge on Harrison Lake

We were invited guests of the Lodge on Harrison Lake. All thoughts, expressions, and opinions are my own.

Mother’s Day this year falls on Grace’s 2nd birthday. So we decided to celebrate Mother’s Day early and escape for a couple nights kid-free! Something that rarely happens, but this mama needed to sleep in, put her feet up, and just listen to the sounds of the birds, the water, and feel the sun on her face. It was glorious and I highly recommend this same escape, especially when travelling far is not an option right now.

The Lodge on Harrison Lake offers modern waterfront accommodation with a private beach and dock, as well as being only a minute drive from the village of Harrison Hot Springs. We relaxed on our balcony, tried Forest Bathing, and walked around the quaint sleepy village. We also really enjoyed the drive up, and made the most of sight-seeing along the way! The weather couldn’t have been better, as we were treated to sun and clear skies.

Nestled between the mountains and valleys of the Fraser Valley, glacier fed Harrison Lake is a beautiful sight. It’s hard to believe that this little hidden gem is only about an hour drive from home. The drive is peaceful and the scenic valleys and farms along the way are a sight for sore “city-living” eyes. In order to re-set and re-charge, two nights at the lake was just what we needed.

We set out around 1pm giving us plenty of time to stop for groceries (knowing we had a full kitchen and BBQ), as well as take in the magical sight of Cascade Falls. The Falls are located in Deroche (not far from Mission), there’s a suspension bridge where you can view the scenic waterfall which plummets 30 metres into an emerald pool.

The Lodge on Harrison Lake has a main residence which sleeps 10, the Carriage House which sleeps 6, and 4 additional suites, all outfitted with kitchens, balconies, and beautiful waterfront views. The lodge sits on 2.5 acres of beachfront property and is nestled amongst some of Harrison Hot Springs’ tallest overgrown trees. We enjoyed making a lakeside fire both nights, as the lodge is outfitted with an axe, paper, and fire wood, as well as multiple fire pits on the beach.

Keeping with the theme of “slowing down” we decided to try Forest Bathing with “Ya Doma Nature and Forest Therapy”. Following the Japanese practice of “Shinrin Yoku” it’s a mindful experience blending ancient traditions and supporting wellness and happiness through immersions in a forest and natural surroundings. We spent almost 3 hours in the forest just listening, walking, and being in the moment, completing different rituals and activities along the way. Our guide Kim was great, she fully explained each activity and fully participated. We saw two beautiful owls and enjoyed a tea ceremony from the needles we picked off a Hemlock tree.

We stopped for lunch in the village at The Muddy Waters Cafe. We took our meals to-go and ate on a a quiet bench overlooking the lake. We grabbed a couple chocolate “Sasquatch Feet” from The Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory” next door to take home for the kids. I grew up coming to Harrison Hot Springs, so being here with Mark brought back a lot of nice memories, as not a lot has changed.

The Lodge on Harrison Lake is perfect for those who love nature and the outdoors, but also appreciate a comfortable bed and a luxury bath or shower in the morning. The fire on the beach reminded me of camping and the lakefront views are spectacular, you couldn’t be any closer. We cannot wait to return. Next time with the kids in tow, as I know they would love throwing rocks and sticks in the water, roasting marshmallows and even taking a therapeutic forest walk!
