Inn at Laurel Point – A Perfect Victoria Family Getaway.

Inn at Laurel Point – A Perfect Victoria Family Getaway.

We were invited guests of  Inn at Laurel Point. All thoughts, expressions, and opinions are my own.

We love visiting Vancouver island, and there’s something so charming about BC’s capital Victoria. It’s a lot quieter than Vancouver, and gets a lot less rain than the mainland as well.   Inn at Laurel Point is situated in the James Bay neighbourhood, just a short stroll into downtown and the main attractions. There’s so much to explore and it makes for a great family getaway.

One of my favourite things about staying at the Inn is the gorgeous harbour views. We stayed in the Erickson Wing which recently underwent a renewal. Designed to look like a ship coming into port when viewed from the harbour, the Inn’s two halves became whole during their latest renovation and redesign of the entrance lobby, restaurant, and main hallway!

The location is the perfect jump off point for exploring downtown or the inner harbour. Mark and the kids all brought their scooters and this was our main mode of transportation while exploring around town.

The service was fantastic! Everyone is so friendly and it didn’t take the kids long to feel right at home. They even had a robe for every member of the family placed in our room upon arrival.  The kids loved our morning swims at the indoor pool and watching the sea planes land in the harbour.

It’s only a few minutes walk to Fisherman’s Wharf, a really fun spot to take the kids for fish and chips, to watch wildlife, and to check out the float home village. There’s a park nearby and a harbour taxi stop where you can hop on a harbour tour or just grab a ride into downtown or West Victoria.

On our first night (which was actually Father’s Day) we went for an amazing dinner at the Inn’s waterfront restaurant AURA. We sat on the patio and were led through a fresh and locally-focused tasting menu with global inspiration.  The kids had kid’s meals but also loved trying our dishes.  In particular the seafood risotto and the seasonal tomato salad. The backdrop (views of the harbour) made for a  pretty spectacular dinner setting as well!

The concept at AURA is sharing small plates. Something Mark and I have always loved to do! When we were first dating we discovered that we both loved to try each other’s dish and since them have often ordered a few things to share.  Everything we tried at AURA had so much flavour and tasted so fresh!

We ordered room service for breakfast both mornings during our stay and breakfast is brought up from AURA. Going to the restaurant was an option, but we loved starting our day with a yummy breakfast on the balcony while still in our robes!

The kids loved the oatmeal with fruit compote, almond praline,
and vanilla mascarpone.  My eggs benny was so good that I ordered it twice! The coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice was also a huge hit… Breakfast just might be my favourite meal of the day!

We can’t wait to return to Victoria and stay at  Inn At Laurel Point again! The views, the location, the food, and the service was incredible! I highly recommend the hotel for a romantic stay, while on business, or for a mini family holiday!

Spread the love
